Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon October 2018

I decided to signup for the Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon late last night when I got home from work. It is a very blustery day here so curling up with some good books sounded like a good plan. Not sure how much I will be posting as I am kind of winging it without a plan.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I have two books in my stack and am looking forward to both of them. I am currently subscribed to the Once Upon A Book Club Box and have some books from there to catch up on. The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah and The Retreat by Mark Edwards I am looking forward to them both.


3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Chicken Wings in my air fryer

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am the mother of 3 grown children and the mother to two dogs and 2 cats. I haven't been reading and blogging much as I went back to work after raising my kids. I love to read and I love to participate in the readathon.


5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I have done many of these readathons and I don't think there is much I will do differently.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon April 28, 2018

I have been a terrible blogger and a terrible reader as of late. I love to participate in Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon twice a year if I can. It brings back such good memories for me. It helps get my reading mojo moving again. I am getting a late start as I am a second shifter so early morning doesn't happen for me anymore. I was so excited for the readathon that I had a hard time sleeping. I have some errands to run in a bit but as soon as they are done, I am putting on some comfy sweats and digging into my books.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I am starting The Taster by V.S. Alexander. I received this book as part of my Once Upon A Bookclub subscription. I love this subscription service! They send you a box every month with a book and gifts to be opened at certain times in the book. The gifts relate to the story and help to make the book come to life. The best part is I have read books from genres I probably would have never tried.


3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Cookies and Cream Poptarts, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Instant Pot Mac n Cheese


4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I used to be a stay at home mom that loved to read and so I started this blog. With my kids being grown, I have returned to the workforce so I don't have as much time for reading and blogging which makes sad as I love the book blogging community and reading.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon October 2017

It's been a long time since I have posted on this blog. Life has changed so much since my last post. My mother lost her battle with cancer November 4, 2016. It was a very long battle. Reading during this time became impossible for me. I would read the same page over and over again and had no idea what I just read. I'm just now getting back into reading and it feels great. I missed many readathons but I always felt sad when I couldn't participate. So here I am, a bit late to the party but here and ready to read!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? The Cottingley Secret by Hazel Gaynor

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am a mom to three fine adult children, two furry granddogs, and am owned by a high energy rescued mutt and two loving cats.I was a regular book blogger until I returned back to the work force. I miss blogging and reading and hope to get back to both.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I missed last readathon but have participated in the past. This time I am starting late as I am now a second shifter. Hoping that means I will be able to stay up later.

I really got a late start after sleeping in a bit this morning. It was rough night at work last night. I ran my weekend errands first and then started reading. My plan was to read most of the night but I forgot we have dog class tomorrow morning. Hopefully I will get some reading done before bed time.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Dexter is a huge distraction. He hates anything that takes my attention away from him. He got a new ball today and has had lots of extra treats.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? The amount of people participating amazes me! I think it is fantastic to see how the Read-a-thon has grown!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I am throwing some chicken and dumplings in the crockpot this morning. I miss home cooked meals since I work nights.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am a mom to three fantastic adult children. We have a 10 month old puppy named Dexter who keeps us extremely busy these days.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? My goal is to read when I can and to just have fun.

I Am Here

I am here...kind of. It has been a long time dear friends. I didn't mean to vanish off the planet but life happened. What have I been up to since last year?

My mother turned 90 this year. It has not been an easy year for her. Cancer is back and there is not much that can be done. She is doing good but some days are harder than others.

February was a rough month. We said good bye to my Mother-in-Law and our dear dog, Jake. It was a very sad month. I still miss them both. My mother-in-law was always full of interesting stories and was a real character. Jake took a big part of my heart with him. Some days I still cry for him. He was my guy!

Our home was empty without a dog so we adopted this little guy. We named him Dexter. He was rescued from down south. He was brought up on a transport of puppies from a kill shelter. He has been quite the handful but he does bring life and joy to our home. We were told he was a hound mix and would be 80-100 pounds when full grown. Lucky for us they were wrong. We have no clue what he is. He is now 10 months and is around 46 pounds.

There hasn't been much reading going on here. I am still working full time, second shift. I have been feeling the void of not reading and blogging. I am not sure how much I will be around but I am going to try to get back into the swing of things. I have some books that I am excited to get to and I am trying out Audible.

I hope to check out everyone's blogs. I do glance at blogs through feedly and/or Bloglovin. I sure have missed you all and I look forward to catching up!

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Oh the interruptions....the dog goes out, the dog goes in, the dog has an accident...just doing the best we can and hoping he starts feeling better soon

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I am always surprised at how many new readers and blogs I find each time there is a readathon.

I have not gotten a lot of reading done. I have read about 82 pages. The poor dog is having a time. We go in and out quite a bit. He's not made it out the door a few times so I have been shampooing carpet. Let's hope his antibiotic kicks in soon. I have had fun checking out goodreads. I hope to get more reading done soon.

Today is Read-a-thon day! I will be participating but I have to make an early run to the vet with the dog. As soon as I get back I will be reading! See you soon!

Okay I am back from the vet and ready to read! The dog has a bladder infection which is what I was expecting her to say. I came home and gave him his meds and started a pot of soup. I am ready to go. 4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I I recently took in 2 rescue kitties which brings me up to 4 cats in my home. Our two new additions have brought quite a bit of life to our home. Between my adults kids, my furkids and my job, I keep pretty busy these days!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I am getting a late start since I had to make and unexpected trip to the vet but I should be able to stay up pretty late since I am a second shifter. I have participated in the read-a-thon about 9 times and I have learned the best approach is a laid back approach.

I'm Back!

I cannot believe it has been a year since I have posted. I did not mean to take a long break. Life sometimes happens.

Last fall my mom was diagnosed with another type of cancer unrelated to her lymphoma. This time radiation was to be the treatment. She went everyday for about 6 weeks. She also gave up her drivers license so she requires more of our time right now. My mom always was running with us kids so now it is our time to give back. My mom is doing well. For an 89 year old woman, she has a lot of spunk.

My son and his fiance also were planning a spring wedding. They planned a wonderful, fun wedding. Those are Green Bay Packer shoes on her feet! They are a fun couple! My new daughter-in-law is just a joy! I couldn't be happier for them!

Reading has not been happening for me, I have tried but my mind just couldn't concentrate with all that was going on. I also have been a workaholic which has resulted in a horrible case of Planters Fasciitis. I think it is time to slow down and get back to what I love - reading. I am going through my toppling tbr pile and plan on digging in.

Hopefully, you will be hearing from me more often now. I hope you all are well. I am looking forward to reading blogs and hearing all about new reads! I feel like I have missed out on so many books!

My Thoughts

When Beth Hoffman's first book, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt started showing up around the blogosphere, I knew I had to read it. The synopsis spoke to me. I read it and fell in love with the characters. Beth Hoffman is not only an excellent author but she is a wonderful person as well. She is so supportive to us bloggers and she is as down to earth as he characters she writes about.

I was so excited when I saw Beth had a new book coming out. It was released in May. I apologize profusely for taking so long to write this review but life has been so crazy for me this year. Let me tell you though, Looking For Me is just as fantastic as Saving CeeCee Honeycutt!

The storyline in Looking For Me has many layers and a bit of mystery. Teddi Overman follows her dreams from Kentucky to Charleston where she opens an antique shop. Teddi is a bit of a magician. She takes peoples trash and magically transforms it into treasures. She is successful but yet she is missing something in her life. Her brother, Josh mysteriously disappeared and his disappearance has remained unsolved. Josh is a very natural person who is very into birds and nature. He brings a bit of Native American beliefs to the story. I am not going to reveal too much about the storyline as this is a story to be experienced and savored.

Teddi's life is told both in the present and in flashbacks. The two time periods flow smoothly which is a testament to Beth's wonderful storytelling ability. The characters that the reader meets along the way are rich and memorable. The Southern charm shines through in the story and makes the reader feel right at home.

This book is just as wonderful as Saving CeeCee Honeycutt but is a very different read. I loved the element of mystery along with the Native American beliefs that were presented in the story. The characters were just as I hoped they would be. They felt like old friends and just like a visit with old friends, I was sad to see them go when I finished the book. These friends had me laughing and in tears throughout their visit.

Pick up Looking For Me. You won't be disappointed. It is one of my favorite reads of the year! Definitely a 5 star read for me!

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am the mother of three young adults and one dog and one cat. I was a stay at home mom but now that my kids are grown I have entered the working world again. I work at a cancer hospital which I find very rewarding. I love to read and it is one of the things I miss most since going back to work.

I did not participate in the last readathon as I was working. I am taking a very relaxed approach to the readathon today. My plan is to read and have fun!

Dewey's Read-a-thon October 12, 2013!

As I was reading and catching up on blogs today, I noticed tomorrow is Dewey's Read-a-thon. This is one of my very favorite read-a-thons. I highly recommend it! Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit rainy and cool here. What better way to spend my day than to participate in the read-a-thon. I am sure I won't read 24 hours. I will probably not make the 24 hours but plan on reading when I can. You have no idea how excited I am! I am off to plan my snack and reading list! Are you participating?

Fall Update

It has been far too long since I have posted on this poor, neglected blog. I really didn't mean to take a long break. It just happened.

My mom is still in remission. Every day is a gift. I try to spend as much free time with her as possible. She is back home but not driving so we have to make sure she gets where she needs to be and that she has everything she needs. All this while we hold down full time jobs takes a toll but I would never change a thing. I feel very blessed to have my mom. We have our morning coffee together every day on the phone.

Work has been crazy. We are short help at work and have been all summer. It puts more responsibilities on those of us left behind. At the end of the night we are all exhausted. Hopefully, things will look up soon.

I have been reading a bit. I do have some book reviews I need to get at. I am on vacation this weekend and I hope to do more catching up here and to catch up on my blog reading.

I have missed everyone and look forward to getting back into the swing of things. It has been far too long!

Mailbox Monday July 8

Wow, I had no idea it had been so long since I posted. Life is crazier than ever. My mom is still going through chemo but doing well. Work is crazier than ever. My middle son is engaged, planning a wedding and is in the process of moving out. Life is hectic and crazy!

I am very sad about Google Reader being gone. I am trying out several replacement readers but so far I have not found the one for me. I have tried Inoreader, Feedly and Feedreader and a few others. I sure wish I could find one exactly like Google Reader. Any suggestions?

I hope to post a review this week for Looking For Me by Beth Hoffman. I really enjoyed this book! Beth is a wonderful writer! Her characters always find a special place in my heart!

My Mailbox Monday post is a day late. Yesterday was my birthday, a very BIG birthday. A birthday I have been dreading. All I will say is I don't feel as old as I am. Anywho..I received some great books this past week so I wanted to be sure to share them with you.

I am so excited about my first book! I love Beth Hoffman! She is such a sweetheart. Beth sent me a signed copy which I will always treasure! I found this book in my mail after work at 11:00 last night. It was all I could do not to start to read it. I knew that once I started I would have a hard time putting it down! Thank you again, Beth! I will be starting this one today! I can't wait!

My Thoughts

This was the first Lisa Scottoline book I have read but it won't be my last! I am not a big suspense book reader but I this book grabbed my attention.

The book starts out with a woman, Chloe, who is dying on her kitchen floor. Someone walks in and instead of helping her, walks out the door. Who was it? Was it the murderer? Who would want to kill this young mother and wife I was hooked!

The story then shifts to her husband, Mike who is deployed in Afghanistan. Mike deals with not only the death of his loving wife, but also deals with the effects of war. When Mike comes home from Afghanistan he has so much to overcome. His infant daughter doesn't know him, his in laws don't understand him, and he is obsessed with solving the questions surrounding his wife's death.

The book kept me guessing as to who murdered Chloe. The rest of the story was a bit predictable and maybe a bit far fetched but it did keep me reading. I I enjoyed the combination of suspense and drama. There was more to the story than just someone being murdered and who did it. I found this book entertaining and will be reading this author again.

Mailbox Monday May 6

I missed Mailbox Monday yesterday. Life has been busy here. And to top it off, spring has FINALLY arrived here. My yard sure needed some serious attention and it took up much of my spare time. It's slowly looking good and hopefully will be ready for planting flowers and some veggies soon. I hope everyone is enjoying some nice weather. Winter sure has been a long one here in the Midwest! I can hardly wait to get outside to read in the mornings before going to work.

My mother had her CT scan. Her tumor is shrinking. They may stop her chemo treatments soon. She finally has some energy and is feeling pretty good. Thank you all for your well wishes, thoughts and prayers. They all mean so much and I do believe that it all helps!
