Mailbox Monday August 20

It's Monday again. Time for another Mailbox Monday post. This month's host for Mailbox Monday is 5 Minutes for Books. Be sure to check out their site. It is a wonderful site with something for everyone.

I have to apologize for my lack of visiting and commenting on your blogs. I miss visiting them. I have been working some overtime when I can plus this past week I decided it was time to say good-bye to an old friend. Betsy, the mini-van was no longer safe to drive. I have driven her since 1999 when we bought her brand new. It was time to say good-bye. My boys laughed at how I mourned her as I said good-bye. Sadly, she was headed for the scrap yard. She saw my kids grow up and served us well! I now have Heidi, the Honda Odyssey. She is used but in very good shape. She has bells and whistles which made the transition nice. It took up most of my week finding and buying her. I really hate buying cars but I found a salesman who made it as painless as possible. And his wife works for Barnes and Noble! I knew we had a connection as soon as he said that! Hopefully, now that that is behind me, I can get back to visiting blogs. I will try to hit a few everyday.

This week I received two books that I purchased.

7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker

I am not sure this is an experiment for me but I am interested to see what the author discovered during her journey.

The World as We Know It by Joseph Monninger

I loved Joseph's book, Eternal on the Water. You can check out my review here. Both books are bargain priced for $6 each on Amazon right now.

So that is what came to my house last week. What wonderful reads made their way into your home?

  1. What interesting titles! Have a great reading week...!!!

    Here is my post.

  2. Enjoy! your reads.

  3. Have a great week and happy reading!

  4. I get attached to my vehicles too! My jeep is 12 years old and still going strong.

  5. I understand about buying a car. When I got a new one a couple years ago, I felt like I was letting my old car down. Buying a car is such a pain. Enjoy your new books!

  6. I was asked to endorse (blurb) Joseph Monninger's novel and I truly enjoyed every page. I hope you do too.

    Have a terrific week!

  7. ENJOY!!!!!

    Silver's Reviews

  8. I hope you enjoy your new books and new car! :) Have a great week.

  9. I felt the same way when I had to give up my very first car. I had created so many good memories with it, that it was so hard to get rid of it!

  10. Both of those look good and I too loved Eternal on the Water. :-)

  11. Hope you love your new car as much as you did the old and many many years with her.

  12. Hi Beth,

It's amazing just how attached we can become to a lump of metal, isn't it? My car has taken on part of my personality I think and changing it would be just like starting over in a new body!

That leads very nicely into your first book, 7. This probably isn't a book that I will be rushing out to buy, as I don't read memoirs. Whilst I fully agree with what this family did, I do hope that it wasn't just an experiment and they had the conviction to carry on with the ideal. I am also not sure why they felt the need to tell the world what they had done. Many people do extraordinary things in their lives, without feeling the need to shout it from the rooftops!

I really do like the sound of both the Joseph Monninger books you mentioned. It sounds as though 'Eternal On The Water' was quite emotional both to read and review and I am certain that 'The World As We Know It', isn't going to be any different. Such an expressive an compassionate style of writing, I really do need to read these books. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hope that Heidi settles into the family very soon,

  13. Thank you for checking out my MM hope you enjoy your books

  14. I love that cover of the last book...looks like one I would totally pick up to read.

I understand the mourning of a beloved car. We just traded in our Jeep and I was sad to see her go.

  15. Good luck with the new car, and enjoy your new books!

  16. Eternal on the Water is one of those books I haven't gotten to, but still plan to:)

Hope you have been doing well much going on in summer, sorry I haven't visited much.

I love comments so please feel free to leave them!
