Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

My Thoughts

I loved The Hunger Games even though it is not my usual type of read. You can check out my review here. I think I may have waited too long to pick up Catching Fire. It took me awhile to get into it. I found the first two parts of the book not as riveting as The Hunger Games. It still is a very good read. I just found myself putting the book down and walking away from it. The Hunger Games was glued to my hands until I finished it.

The third part of Catching Fire really redeemed the whole book for me! Finally, I found all the action I had enjoyed in the first book. It was exciting and once again left me hanging at the end. I am hoping to read Mockingjay to wrap up the whole series. I am also looking forward to The Hunger Games movie though I will probably wait for the dvd to come out.

I borrowed this book on my Kindle Fire through the Kindle Lending Library with my free Amazon Prime trial.

  1. You just reminded me that I still need to review this. I recently finished Catching Fire as well. I enjoyed it immensely. I thought it had a slow and steady buildup with the climax so close to the end that you knew there was another installment (of course, I already knew that so it wasn't a surprise).

  2. I don't think the last two books compare to The Hunger Games in terms of excitement, but I enjoyed them both. Glad you're enjoying the series so far.

  3. The kids and I listened to all three on audio, and we were just blown away by the first book, highly entertained with the second, and almost couldn't finish the third. I guess that is the way of many trilogies. But at this point, you get invested so you have to see it through. Can't wait for the movie!

  4. I've read the whole trilogy and think the first book is the best of the three. I enjoyed books two and three, but unlike book one I could easily put them down.

  5. That's the problem I've had with this book. I picked it up right after Hunger Games and could not get into it so I put it down and haven't gone back. Sounds like I should. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  6. I haven't read any of Collins' series yet but I know it's wildly popular. The filmmakers are hoping it will take over in popularity where the Twilight series left off!
Anyway, how do you like your Kindle? I use a Nook and my only complaint is the books I can lend usually aren't books anyone would want to borrow!
    I like your blog, I subscribed :)

  7. Everyone seems to love these books but I've avoided them because they're out of my comfort zone. I need to give them a try before the movie comes out.

  11. I've read all three and don't know if I will watch the movie because of the violence. I picked up Catching Fire right after I read Book One so it flowed for me. Mockingjay is different from the first two because it deals a lot with Katniss's emotional reactions to everything that's happened to her.
