Sunday Salon
This week brought our first real snowfall this winter. We saw about 7 inches of the stuff. After being in the 50's the day before, it was a bit disheartening. But it is the Midwest and we have been very fortunate to get this far without the white stuff. I did enjoy playing with the dog in it for about 15 minutes. Once I was wet and cold, I was ready for spring! I am such a wimp!
I finished two books this week. I finally finished Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I loved The Hunger Games but this book dragged for me in the beginning. It finished big though so I will have to read Mockingjay. I will review it this week, hopefully.
The other book I read and adored was The Thorn and The Blossom: A Two Sided Love Story by Theodora Goss. Be sure to check out my review here.
I also posted a giveaway for One Moment, One Morning by Sarah Rayner. Be sure to enter here! The giveaway ends January 24 and is open to readers in Canada and the US(sorry to my international followers, this is from the publisher).
Other than that my week was quiet until I started to hear all types of buzzing about a certain PBS series called Downton Abbey. Perhaps you have heard of it? I decided to check it out after seeing it posted on so many blogs and spoken of quite highly. I am now addicted and am all caught up on season 1 and 2 and ready for a fresh episode tonight. Thank you all for posting your love for this series! I would have hated to miss it!
Today is my mom's birthday. She is 87 today. We will be celebrating with her today! I bought her some new books by her favorite authors, Debbie Macomber and Robin Carr and also a DVD of The Help, since she enjoyed the book. I think it is awesome that my mom is still going strong at her age. She has had a few blips this past year but she is doing great!
I need to check out the new commenting system available on blogger. I see many have switched over. If you have, do you like it? I sure would love to be able to reply on the comments left on my blog. Some days I try to email a response but on some comments you can't do that since the poster doesn't have that enabled. Let me know what you think of the new system. I may give it a try later this week.
Have a great Sunday!

We got whacked with snow this past week, too :-( Like you, we've been lucky to make it into mid-January without too much of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm addicted to Downton Abbey, too! Can't wait for tonight's episode.
I just switched to the new comment format today. I hope it works well because I really like the idea of replying to individual comments.
Have a great reading week!
You can keep the snow up your way. Yay for your mom! Mine will be 85 at the end of the month and she is full of zip.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your mom :) Hasn't our winter been strange - weather wise? I'm an hour or so north of you and we got 3 inches of snow in my neighborhood. A mile away, they got 6! Some of your mom's favorite authors are also mine - and she has 30+ years on me. I'll bet she'll enjoy the new books. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to mom! And I will repeat what Kathy said...you can have the snow. It got down in the 30's last night and we thought we would freeze to death.
ReplyDeleteThe kids and I listened to the Hunger Games trilogy on audio and we enjoyed it for the most part. (Mockingjay not so much.) We are so excited for the movie!
Just switched over my comments on blogger, but haven't looked at it. I don't know, maybe it takes awhile for it to kick in...
We hardly received any snow at all!! I'm a wimp too when it comes to winter. My husband is up north right now riding his snowmobile...a hobby that I have no interest in whatsoever! I read Hunger Games and loved it. Catching Fire is on my list for this month. I'm jumping on the Downton Abbey madness too!! Happy Birthday to your mom. I think that's wonderful that she's full of life!!
ReplyDeleteI enabled the new comment thingie and love it!!
I loved reading your different perspective on the snow! It's funny how scarcity of something makes it seem special, while an overabundance makes it loathsome. :) I hope you get nicer weather soon!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all your new books! One Moment, One Morning looks really good.
ReplyDeleteWe just got our first big snowfall, and I could have done without. I'm happy it didn't come earlier.
I guess I am a little weird, but I am actually looking forward to our first snowfall this winter (still waiting). I'm sure I will soon be tired of it, but right now I would love to wake up to the trees covered in snow.
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy Birthday to your mom!
Happy Belated Birthday to your mom - 87 is awesome especially since she's still doing well.
ReplyDeleteOur weather sounds much the same. We got hit on Thursday of last week I think it was and it's just gotten continually worse. We got about 5 inches of snow but it's really the cold that's the worst. If you're outside with an uncovered body part it will be frozen in less than a minute. It is not nice and you're right - I think it's harder to handle because we had such nice weather before it.
Downtown Abbey is excellent. I have only watched the first episode but I'm already hooked. I'm hoping to fit in the second episode tonight.
Hope you have a great week Beth!
